Meet Jen

Jen Mccool, LCSW (she/they/ella)

I am a licensed clinical social worker, queer artist, white/sefardi jew, radical leftist, and eldest sibling. I believe that therapy is inherently political, and therapists have an ethical obligation to engage in social justice-minded work both within and outside the therapy room. I value a systemic perspective that is anticapitalist, intersectional, and ever-evolving.

I have almost 15 years of collective experience in social work focused on immigrant advocacy, community-based mentorship and child advocacy programs. I specialize in psychotherapy for intersectional LGBTQIA+ experiences, including trauma processing, identity development and relational explorations. Additionally, I have extensive experience and passion for supporting individuals who have been harmed by the child welfare system. For me, the therapeutic space is one of consent, collaboration, compassion, and play. I emphasize a relational approach that, over time, aims to create culturally-relevant spaces to explore with clients how internalized narratives have impacted the sense of self and relationships with others.

I welcome work with queer, multicultural, and poly individuals from adoptive families, like myself, and often connect with other activists, artists, punks, and creatives desiring to thrive within the in-between. To be human is to have embodied experience that is not always verbally accessible. My experiences as an artist, dancer, and avid puzzler inspire me to offer complements of expressive arts, somatic exercises, play, and tarot cards to our conversations (if you so wish!).

Meet Porthos

Therapy Cat, No License Needed (he/him/él)

Porthos is a 14 year old tabby, with extensive experience providing comfort to humans. He loves chickpeas, sitting on the window ledge, and cosplaying as a pillow. As a Leo, he will often make his presence known! While Porthos autonomously creates his schedule, please let Jen know if you have a strong preference for Porthos to join, or not join, your appointments - treats may have to be used as bribes.
