Meet Sonia

Sonia Catalina Gomez, LCSW (she/ella)

Hola! I’m Sonia. As a therapist and parent coach, I am human first, and my work is deeply informed by my lived experiences.

I identify as a Latina. I was born in Central America and immigrated to the United States at age six. I lived as an undocumented immigrant before qualifying for DACA and later completing the citizenship process. In 2020 and again in 2024, I became a parent. Since then, I have been intentionally working to break deep-rooted generational cycles through both my personal growth and parenting practices. These experiences shape the empathy and perspective I bring to my work with clients and families.

My professional experience includes working with children and adolescents navigating anxiety, depression (including suicidal ideation), trauma, neurodivergence, and executive functioning challenges. In hospital settings, I supported high-needs populations in both inpatient and outpatient care. I later continued my work in the child welfare system, providing therapy to families involved with the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). As I transitioned into private practice, my work expanded to include young, middle-aged, and older adults facing challenges related to obsessions and compulsions, burnout, identity shifts, parenting stress, and complex trauma.

In addition to therapy, I provide parent coaching for caregivers who want practical tools and support as they navigate challenging behaviors and strengthen their relationships with their children. While breaking intergenerational patterns and building safety, I enjoy helping parents build their confidence and create home environments that align with their values.

My approach is compassionate, curious, and collaborative. I work through an intersectional, multicultural-feminist lens: valuing the experiences of cycle breakers and empowering those who have been marginalized or oppressed by the systems around them. I believe education is a powerful tool for reclaiming agency and creating meaningful change through everyday choices. I intentionally cultivate a space of trust and safety, recognizing that a strong therapeutic relationship is the foundation for growth. I also support clients and families in building connections beyond therapy to foster community and sustainable support.

My specialized trainings include Parent Management Training (PMT), an evidence-based approach that helps parents respond effectively to disruptive behaviors, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), an evidence-based treatment for children and adolescents impacted by trauma. Through both therapy and parent coaching, I am committed to helping individuals and families create lasting change and move toward lives that feel more connected, empowered, and aligned with their values.
